Somewhere, way towards the bottom, deep in the fine print, there are often discounts hidden, lurking in the shadows of the website, waiting to be uncovered for the purpose of making your visit a little sweeter. And sometimes, they’re not there! They are missing! They’re not listed! And it seems like they don’t even exist! But… they do! They just have to be called upon, summoned, and bam! They suddenly appear reducing ticket prices and lessening restaurant checks!
The whole point of this riveting, dramatic intro is that discounts are sometimes there but never mentioned. Sometimes, you just have to ask! London, being a veteran, often asks for a veteran discounts and is sometimes rewarded at discounts 50% off of admission prices. There are times even when he Is granted free admission as a veteran and sometimes the kids and I even get to tag along too! Now, that is nice!!
However, veterans, active military and their dependents aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of savings. In my vacation planning and research, I have come across discounts for first responders, educators, government employees, AAA members, seniors, and even Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts! So, here is that reminder to check the website, inspect the attraction signage, and look over the menus too for available discounts. And if you don’t see them still, don’t hesitate to ask!
The Just Ask policy also applies to other areas of travel too, specifically when it comes to upgrades. I’ve personally used this when checking into hotels. At one point, I was staying at a particular hotel for work multiple times during the year. I was offered a larger room once and then after learning that option could be available at no additional charge, I started to ask for it! And a lot of the times, my request was granted. So mind your p’s and q’s, use those good manners that our parents, grandparents, guardians, and teachers drilled into us, and just ask!
