Hey foodies and flavor enthusiasts! If you haven’t embarked on a flavor journey with The Cluckin’ Crab food truck in Jacksonville, Florida, you’re missing out on an unbelievable chicken celebration. Don’t get me wrong; the truck is called The Cluckin’ Crab because it specializes in both chicken and seafood, but in this article, I’m focusing solely on the chicken. Prepare your taste buds for a chicken fiesta provided by Chef Domonique V Torrance, or as he’s known on YouTube “The Chocolate Chef.”

A Cajun Flavor Explosion!

My first experience with the Clucking’ Crab came by necessity. I was at work and magically forgot my lunch which gave me the perfect excuse to visit the truck with the fancy New Orleans party wrap on it. The imagery of this colorful food truck had been calling my name for weeks! As I got closer to the truck posturing and mulling over the menu, Chef Torrance could see that I was bewildered and doing the classic menu shuffle. After a few minutes of accomplishing nothing, he graciously called me over to the window and provided me with some much-needed guidance. He gave me two delicious samples of his bourbon and Caribbean jerk chicken. They were both ridiculously flavorful, but I decided to try a rice bowl of the Caribbean jerk chicken and take it back to the office. Just the smell of the Caribbean Jerk Chicken incited my coworkers to come running over for a taste!

Each bite was like tiny dancers doing the samba on my palate. It was so good, I almost asked them to teach me a move or two. From the fresh, perfectly cooked vegetables to the vibrantly moist chicken, this bowl packed just the right amount of kick to get the whole room moving. My very picky Jamaican counterpart stated that it was not a traditional Caribean jerk, but expressed how good it was still as he grabbed an even bigger chunk of my spicy little bounty. After fighting off half the office and telling them to get their own food, a mere 30 minutes later just about the entire office had Cluckin’ Crab on their desks.

The Second Plate – The Duval Fire Hot Chicken Sandwich – WOO DAMN!

Who said chickens can’t talk? Just when I thought the Cluckin’ Crab couldn’t get any better, the Chef lured me over for a second visit by enticing me with his Duval Fire Hot Chicken Sandwich with his signature WOO DAMN sauce! This sandwich is his answer to a Nashville hot chicken sandwich but with his own added flair. The Cluckin’ Crab’s Woo DAMN chicken sandwich defies all poultry stereotypes.

I kid you not, I began writing this story while I devoured the large, super crispy, masterfully hand-breaded chicken breast. The Woo Damn sauce was amazing and again it had just the right amount of kick to keep you coming back for another round. Bring napkins to the party though! The sauce likes to run down your hands however, it’s a deliciously welcoming event, to say the least. With so much finger-lickin’, mouth-smackin’ fun it’s no wonder the sauce is called WOO DAMN!

A Dash Of Jax

The Cluckin’ Crab brings a dash of fun and a taste of Jax into every one of its cajun-inspired dishes. It’s like a culinary fiesta that makes you feel like you’re at a street party in New Orleans. Chef Torrance’s culinary vision will most definitely delight your palette so if you find yourself on the west side of Jacksonville at Cecil Field (13365 Simpson Way, Jacksonville, Fl. 32221), on most weekdays you can try an entree or perhaps two from the Cluckin’ Crab. You can also check out the Cluckin’ Crab at 904 Pop Up at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jax Beach on April 14, 2024. 904 Pop Up is a great event to see, meet, eat, and support local! There are hundreds of booths and quite a few food options as well. So while you’re there you might as well stop in to see Chef Torrance at the Cluckin’ Crab. Your taste buds will thank you and like me, you too will be saying WOO DAMN!!!
